One of the first female founded firms to run as a Consultancy model in the UK

One of the Only Female Led Law firms working as a consultancy model in the UK. In 1987 Lucy Scott  - Moncrieff established Scott Moncrief and Associates, since then, no law firm has run and set up as a consultancy model since Bexley Beaumont, save for the distinct difference that Bexley Beaumont was established by a man and a woman. Whilst astonishing that Lucy had the foresight back in 1987 to create a business set up for fairer working for women and men, why has one not been done since ? We ask ourselves this question, as we ponder the introduction to Trueman Bailey established in 2025, into the market.

An astonishing feat, Louise Trueman began the business with her then business partner but after a short while parted ways. Louise Trueman was the founder of the business, including the Partner later on in the journey. That Partner left the business after a short while whilst Louise continued to run and establish the business, alone, as a sole female founder until she included her daughters (18 and 21) in 2026. This means, Louise Trueman is the only sole female founder since 1987.

We are proud of our heritage and the incorporation of fairer working within the industry. Trueman Bailey runs as a focal point for established lawyers, whilst currently in it’s infancy, the model is running well and continuing to drive like minded, independent spirited lawyers into the consultancy model. We are proud to introduce the legal system to a new way of working.

Whilst the male run law firms, and consultancy models, have yet to catch up – we run on a basis of free and independent thinking. We allow our clients, and lawyers, to work without the impediment of structure which seeks to minimise and dismiss the ability for our lawyers to work independently. Models run by males do not have the same impetus for change, why? Because they are not set up and designed by women. They miss vital things ;

The ability to structure your day around your children, and make and use systems which actually help you to adequately run a business (both the main overall business Trueman Bailey LAW) and the smaller businesses which run underneath and led by our highly capable lawyers. We are provide to introduce systems which are efficient, contingent on best practice, utilising common sense, adapting to changing environments within the industry and which bolster the ability for women to work, and raise children, and care for families, and make money.

We are competent and driven in the key structures of the industry, and we know the issues which prevent women working.

We know that, up to 42% of women leave the legal industry within 9 years of qualification. Why? Because they suffer burnout, undue stress, poor mental wellbeing, lack of self assurance and inability to speak for themselves and be heard. In what remains a male dominated industry, run by men, for men, we are, at Trueman Bailey seeking the change and we intend to implement this stage by stage.
