An estimate, not a formal quote. The inheritance tax figure is an illustration rather than a calculation HMRC would accept: lifetime gifts, business and agricultural relief, pensions and trusts all change the position.

Grant only means we get the grant and hand it to you, and you collect the assets, settle the debts and distribute. Full administration means we do all of it. Grant only is cheaper, but the executor's personal liability stays with you.

No. The probate fee is a court fee for issuing the grant. Inheritance tax is a separate tax on the estate, due six months after the end of the month of death, with interest running from that date.

Straightforward applications are usually a few weeks. Estates needing a full inheritance tax account take longer, because HMRC has to issue a code before the application can go in. Complex or queried estates can run to many months.
